Veterinarians are a VITAL part of running any rescue operation. Unfortunately it is extremely hard for rescues and shelters to find veterinary clinics who will work with them at a reasonable discounted price. Our rescue volunteer, for example drives from Poplar Bluff to Farmington and St. Louis regularly for vet visits!!! Theothersideofthefence.org is creating a scholarship fund to help pay a very small portion of the very high cost of obtaining a Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine to dedicated animal rescue staff  or volunteers. We will match every dollar donated for the scholarship fund.  Basic guidelines for obtaining a scholarship: Must be enrolled full-time. Must have at least a 3.50 Grade point average. Must have completed 1 full year towards a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine Degree. Must have strong connections for at least 5 years in the animal rescue community, either as a board of director or active volunteer. Must agree to volunteer at least 1 day a week altering pets for free for the public upon completion of degree. Must agree to work with approved shelter and rescue  groups at a rate the shelter or rescue can easily afford. Must qualify for Federal Financial Aid. WHAT WILL WE NAME OUR SCHOLARSHIP FUND???? We would like to name the fund in honor of it's biggest sponsor in 2010!! Thats right, we are having a contest-in a sort- Who-ever sponsors the program the most through-out the year will have the honor of naming the scholarship program (after the business, the organization, the family name, or even a pet you want remembered!!!)
